Derick Wayne Hillman


 

A memorial service was held Jan. 4 for Derick Wayne Hillman  of Drain, who died December 25, 2002 of cancer. He was 64.

Hillman was born July 29, 1938, in a cabin at Wilhoit Springs in Molalla, to Ernest and Evelyn Stratch Hillman.

He graduated from Molalla Union High School and lived most of his life in Molalla until settling in Drain four years ago.

He worked as a logger in the Molalla area for many years and owned and operated his own company.

He enjoyed hard work, hunting, making friends, spending time in his shop and being outdoors.

Survivors include a daughter, Laurie Meng of Molalla; a stepson Scott Parks of Molalla; three brothers, Larry of Molalla, Alan of Medford and Mark of Stevens Lake, Wash.; two sisters, Elaine Wein of Alaska and Iris of Snohomish, Wash.; and one granddaughter.

Saturday's service will be at 1 p.m. at Molalla Funeral Chapel. Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, or to a local animal shelter.
