He was born March 30, 1942, in Silverton to Lawrence and Della Sowa. He was a graduate of Molalla High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a mechanic most of his life and worked as auto service manager for Doug’s Repair in John Day, Ore.

He was active in the Grant County communities and a member of the Lions Club, American Legion and Oregon Hunters Association.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Olsen; daughter, Jennifer Moret; sisters, Anna Phillips, Barbara Heinz, Marie Hackett, Catherine Smith, Carolyn Jones, Jeannie Sowa and Laurel Carter; brothers, Larry, Tim and Mitch; and a grandson.

His son, Troy, died in 1987.

A Celebration of the Eucharist will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Ed Coleman officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Canyon City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Foote Guest House, c/o St. Luke’s Medical Center, 121 W.
