Date of birth - April 1, 1949

Date of death  - July 4, 2023

George Steven Walch, 74, passed away July 4, 2023 at home. George was born Apr. 1, 1949 and lived in Molalla, Oregon. He and his family enjoyed a rural life in Clackamas County growing vegetables and berries. George worked at the nearby Liberal Store as a young man and loved tinkering with motors and working on cars. He was the "go to " guy for many of his high school buddies with car questions and problems.

In 1973, George moved to Alaska working for the Denali Park Service eventually being hired by Usibelli Coal Mine in the 80's. At the mine, George worked with the heavy duty fleet and designed a sophisticated, one of a kind, parts inventory and retrieval system at the shop. He expanded his mechanics knowledge and education by taking classes not only in Alaska but also the Lower 48.

In 1996, he met and married his wife, Linda Bond. They spent 10 busy, happy years in Healy, Alaska. They enjoyed riding around in "Old Blue", their ATV's, visiting their many friends and hosting people from all over the world at their Bed and Breakfast. Their home was always open for family and friends and many great times are remembered there.

When George retired in 2006, he was head mechanic and fleet manager at the mine. He could recall part numbers and engine specs for years afterward, especially Fords!!! One of the gifts he received from the mine was a trip for he and Linda to meet several NASCAR drivers, ride along and drive one of the cars on the track.

George will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A memorial was held at he and Lindas home on August 12 and his ashes will be spread at a later date.
