Nathan James Mitts

Nathan James Mitts was born to Melvin E. Mitts and Anita M. (Bevens) Mitts on January 2, 1933. He was the eldest of five children. They lived on a farm near Molalla, Oregon. When Nathan turned 18 he worked as a projectionist at the Molalla movie theatre until 1960. After graduating from Molalla High School, he also started working for Iron Fireman where he stayed for his career of 41 years. Iron Fireman later became Boeing of Portland. He received many awards and accolades and worked from a Machinist up to a Numerical Control Programmer and Manager which was his title from 1978 until retirement in 1994.

Nathan married Marjorie Dale Speights in 1953 and had six children. They lived in Molalla until 1960 when they moved to Newberg, Oregon. He loved to have family together for holidays and special occasions.

Nathan loved music and was a member of the Canby Men's Barbershop Chorus and various barbershop quartets. He loved singing with family and leading singing at church. Other hobbies included bowling, building and flying model airplanes, electronics, piloting private airplanes, operating ham radio, working on his own cars, trout fishing, bicycling and going to Disneyland.

He joined the Army National Guard in 1951 and gained the rank of Major, retiring in 1972.

Nathan is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Anita Mitts, his brother Harold Mitts, sister Marilyn (Mitts) Stephens, son Marcel Mitts, and grandson Nathan Bentley.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie Mitts, children Calvin (Lacie) Mitts, Jim (Debbie) Mitts, Tracy Gim) Bentley, Karen (Steve) Seiwald, and Carie (Kathi) Mitts. Grandchildren Wenfei Cai, Jamie Gonzales, Sharyl Borucki, Erin Barrett, Kara Dokas, Emily Leschinsky, Daniel Seiwald, Robyn Story, Jordan Mitts, and Jennie Demirel. Great great grandchildren Silas Lok, Kyle and Kayden Gonzales, Evie and Mallory Borucki, Grayson and Ethan Barrett, Madison and Hayden Dokas, Alex and Ivan Leschinsky, Jonathan, Levi and Sarah Story, Hudson and Lincoln Mitts. Great great grandchildren Blakelynn and Brayleigh Gonzales.
